Common Armoured Vehicle System (CAVS) Programme: Germany Takes Next Step

CAVS Programme: Background and History

The Common Armoured Vehicle System (CAVS) programme is a joint programme established by Finland and Latvia. Sweden and Germany later joined the programme. The goal of the CAVS programme is to develop a new generation of armoured vehicles for the participating countries. The programme is currently in the development phase, and the first prototypes are expected to be ready by 2025.

Recent Developments

In early 2020, Finland, Estonia, and Latvia agreed on a joint development programme for the Common Armoured Vehicle System. Germany joined the programme in 2021. Today, Germany has taken the next contractual step within the CAVS programme. This step brings Germany closer to acquiring new armoured vehicles under the programme.
