WikiLeaks Founder Julian Assange Arrives in Saipan for Final Act

Saipan to Host Final Act of Assange's Legal Saga

Assange Lands on Pacific Island for Guilty Plea Hearing

WikiLeaks founder Julian Assange arrived in Saipan, a tiny Pacific island and United States territory, on Tuesday. Assange is expected to enter a guilty plea in a US federal court on Wednesday morning.

Saipan is better known for its sandy beaches and Second World War wrecks, but it will soon play host to the final act of Assange's legal saga. Assange's jet arrived in the Thai capital earlier in the day and took off again bound for Saipan just after 10:30 pm local time (1:30 am Thursday, Melbourne time).

Assange, 52, is due to appear in the US federal court in Saipan, the capital of the Northern Mariana Islands. The court is expected to sentence Assange on a number of charges related to the publication of classified US military and diplomatic documents by WikiLeaks.
