A Forgotten Ruler of Westeros

WEB Aegon V Targaryen, known as "Egg," was an unlikely ruler of Westeros. The fourth and youngest son of King Maekar I, he was never expected to ascend to the Iron Throne. Yet, fate had other plans.

Reign as King

In 259 AC, Aegon's elder brothers all met untimely ends, leaving him as the heir presumptive. He ascended to the throne as King Aegon V, earning the nickname "the Unlikely."

Aegon's reign was marked by a focus on reforming the realm. He abolished the oppressive laws passed by his predecessors and sought to bridge the gap between the rich and the poor. His reforms, though well-intentioned, proved controversial and ultimately led to his downfall.

Blackfyre Rebellion

In 260 AC, the Blackfyre Rebellion erupted, led by Daemon Blackfyre, a pretender to the throne. Daemon claimed to be the true heir of King Daeron II, Aegon's great-uncle. Aegon and his sons rode to meet the invaders, and in a pivotal battle, Aegon's sworn sword, Duncan the Tall, slew Daemon in single combat.

Legacy

Aegon V's reign was short-lived. He died in a tragic fire at Summerhall in 259 AC, along with his eldest son, Duncan. His death plunged Westeros into chaos and set the stage for the Targaryen civil war known as the Dance of the Dragons.

Despite his untimely demise, Aegon V's legacy as a visionary reformer and a hero who fought to protect his kingdom endures in the annals of Westerosi history.
