The Serbian star overcame a brief wobble in the second set to beat 14-times French Open champion Rafael Nadal

Novak Djokovic overcame a brief wobble in the second set to beat 14-times French Open champion Rafael Nadal 6-1 6-4 at the Paris Olympics to progress into the quarter-finals.

The Serbian star looked in imperious form in the opening set, breaking Nadal's serve twice to take it 6-1 in just 27 minutes.

Nadal, who has won the French Open a record 14 times, showed more fight in the second set and broke Djokovic's serve in the sixth game to take a 4-2 lead.

However, Djokovic broke back immediately and then held his serve to level the set at 4-4.

The crucial moment came in the ninth game when Nadal double-faulted to give Djokovic a break point. The Serbian star took full advantage and broke Nadal's serve to take a 5-4 lead.

Djokovic then held his serve to love to seal the victory in one hour and 15 minutes.

The win means that Djokovic has now beaten Nadal in three of their four meetings at the Olympics.

Djokovic will face Alexander Zverev in the quarter-finals.
