8-Year-Old Drives Herself to Target, Hits Mailbox, Police Say

An 8-year-old girl took her mother's car for a joyride to Target on Wednesday, but the trip ended with a crash into a mailbox, Bedford police said.

The girl's mother called police at 7:15 p.m. to report that her daughter had taken the car without permission and driven it to the store.

Police said the girl crashed the car into a mailbox on South River Road, causing minor damage to the vehicle.

The girl was not injured in the crash, police said.

Police said the girl's mother was cited for allowing an unlicensed driver to operate a motor vehicle.

The girl was released to her mother's custody.
